Arizona OperaTunity “Opera at your School” tours now scheduling in Tucson!

Arizona opera is excited to announce the Fall 2019 OperaTunity tour! Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? and Opera 101 will travel statewide, reaching more than 18,000 students in Tucson – including yours!

Assembly booking is available from September 16 – December 13, 2019

  • Performances can begin at 9:00am every weekday EXCEPT Wednesdays.
  • Shows are FREE for Title 1 schools, and only $400 for non-Title 1 schools
  • You may reserve up to 2 performances (non-Title 1 schools receive two shows for $600)
  • Both shows run about 35 minutes and include a 10 minute Q&A session

Shows are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis and space is limited – reserve your show quickly! All dates are subject to final artist approval. We will do everything we can to accommodate your scheduling preferences.

Bright Star Touring Theatre Booking in Arizona

Bright Star Touring Theatre is coming to Arizona to share their educational performances with schools in our state. Bright Star will be in Mesa from 9/16-20 and is available in other parts of the state for shows on either side of those dates. Bright Star works on the model – “1 van, 2 actors, 3 shows, 45 minutes each!” As such, the tour that is heading to Mesa in September is travelling with three shows from our Fall Tour 4 (click the link for show descriptions):

Captain Friendship: An Antibullying Superhero Adventure (Best for grades K-5)

A Tell-Tale Tale: The Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe (Grades 3+ – but best for Middle School/High School)

Igor and the Masters of STEM (Grades K-6)

Regular pricing for shows is $895 for a single performance, $250 more for each show on the same day, same location, back-to-back.  Schools can cooperate to bring us on the same day (one in the AM and another in the PM) and both save $200 off their booking.  With workshops and residencies also available, check out www.brightstartheatre.com to find out more or call 336.558.7360.

March 19th ASU Theatre Experience

High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors and prospective transfer students are invited to the ASU Tempe Campus on March 16th from 4-9:30pm for the ASU Theatre Experience 2019. The event is free and includes a behind-the-scenes tour of ASU theatre facilities, workshop, and a pizza dinner with current ASU theatre students. Participants will also receive free tickets to the ASU MainStage show, Ajax, and attend a post-show talkback with the director and members of the cast–a unique opportunity to learn all about how the show was created! NOTE:  NEW PROCEDURES: 

ALL participants (students and teachers) must register individually.  ASU staff will provide supervision while students are on campus. This event is for students and teacher chaperones only.

Also NEW this year:

ALL participants must sign an electronic Liability Waiver via DocuSign. Minors under age 18 must also have the signature of their parents/guardians in order to participate.  Teachers whose students or their parents do not have an email address or internet access should email [email protected] to discuss other options.  ASU is committed to conservation; therefore, no paper forms will be accepted at any time.

Synopsis: 

In the aftermath of the Trojan War, Menelaus and Agamemnon name Odysseus the greatest warrior, awarding him the armor of the fallen hero Achilles.  Furious at being passed over for this honor, Ajax vows murderous revenge in this timeless tragedy of madness and violence.

ASU’s production of Ajax incorporates punk music and culture as a storytelling backdrop, aiding in the creation of a concert-like theatrical experience.

TEACHER TECH TOUR @ ASU GAMMAGE

Teachers are invited to participate in our FREE Teacher Tech Tour on Monday, March 4, 2019 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Teachers will come to ASU Gammage to meet with our Technical Director and have a special back stage tour of our historic Frank Lloyd Wright building to ask questions and learn more about the theater.
