ADE Arts Education Director featured by YabYum Music + Arts

Arts Education and Title IV-A Director Dustin Loehr was recently interviewed by YabYum Music + Arts. Loehr shares about the importance of measuring and valuing Arizona Arts Education and his focus and efforts as a leader within the Arts Education field.

“For so long, the argument for arts programs has been art for art’s sake–and there is an argument there–that being said, the arts can improve test scores, the arts can improve social and emotional literacy, the arts can curb high school dropout rates.”

ADE and the AZ Arts Commission releases the AZ Arts Ed. Data Project

What an amazing week we have journeyed through together! We have introduced our new Arts Education Specialist, sent our Director to the National Arts Education Partnership Conference in Indiana, we’ve highlighted celebrations happening in our schools, and now we are pleased to unveil the Arizona Arts Education Data Project!  This interactive dashboard is the most comprehensive analysis to-date of Arizona Student access and participation in Arts Education courses. Interested in learning about Arts Education access in your county? The dashboard can tell you that. What about 5th grade enrollment in dance at your district? The dashboard can tell you that. For the first time, we can clearly analyze student access and participation in the arts by geographic location, economical demographic, by artistic discipline- for EVERY school in Arizona!

Interested in the full Executive Summary, or would you rather just look at the highlights? Either way, we are working hard to better frame the Arts Education landscape as it truly exists in each of our Arizona schools.

We are very proud to share this information with you, adding to transparency and choice for you and your student(s).

Happy National Arts in Education Week form the ADE Office of Arts Education,

2018 Summer Arts Education Institute- Master Class Instructor Julie Peters

ADE is excited to partner with AAEA President Julie Peters!

When asked about what she LOVES about Arts Education Ms. Peter’s responded, “I just completed my 21st year as an art educator and I look forward to the teaching years ahead of me. Along the way, I have grown as an artist and as an educator. I have worked diligently to improve my teaching while increasing my range of artistic skills. I remember making a paper mache fish with a button eye when I was in third grade. I truly believe that is the point when my passion for art first began.”

Be sure to Register for our Summer Institute for K-12 Arts Educators and Teaching Artists! Julie will be sharing her original unit on Social Issues. This project will allow Arts Educators to experience a strategy designed to  help students understand how artist’s use their visual voice to send their messages to their communities and the world!

We Are AZ Graphic

Calling ALL 4th Grade students!

With our NEW Social Study Standards still in the works, we will once again be collaborating with 4th Grade for the WeAreAz Competition! Depending on how things land with the standards revision, we may be engaging different grade bands in the future.

The “We Are Arizona!” 4th Grade Collaborative Student Artwork Competition is a visual arts integration contest for 4th grade students from around the State of Arizona. Students participate in the contest by working with their classmates to create and submit an original work of art designed around the theme:

“We Are Arizona!”

Under the supervision of their teacher, 4th grade students within a single classroom or grade level will work together to integrate their recently-acquired knowledge of Arizona – its rich and enduring history, its magnificent and awe-inspiring vistas, its industrious and rugged people, and its diverse and vibrant cultures – into a cohesive and inspiring work of art.  ALL visual media – including tapestry, sculpture, paintings and drawings, collage, photography, and mixed media artworks – are eligible for Entry.
